Military Monday-Respect the damn flag!

Ok, no I’m not one for necessarily following rules and listening to authority all the time (just ask my parents) but the flag regs are something that I follow and think that everyone, especially military related folks, should also follow. Yes, you (collective you) might not think that an American Flag bikini is distasteful but really, it brings down the flag….my husband is deployed and currently fighting for what it stands for, I’ll be damned if I disrespect it.

So here is a link to the flag regs. Go on, take a look. I promise that you will be surprised AND you will be surprised at some of the political rule breakers (really Palin? Autographing a flag? for shame.)

One of the things that really gets under my skin are military wives who make budoir pics for their husbands and use the flag in them really. Really? Posing naked with the American flag? So fucking distasteful. But God forbid you tell them that, then they’ll yell at you for being unpatriotic.

The flag is never supposed to be used as clothing (are you listening, Kid Rock and Olympians?) or as something disoposable. That’s right; those cute flag paper plates, napkins and such that many use on the 4th of July are a no-no. Think about it. Our flag should be respected, not something that we put food on and then throw away. “It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. “

Businesses, pay attention! Reg-”The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever….Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.” So quit using the flag to make your damn sales appeal to patriotic people.

And then there’s this reg “The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.” This is something that apparently the NCAA pays no attention to at all. Maybe I should call them out on it.

Those are just a few of the regs. Seriously, please look at the website and pass it on to people. I am sure that many people have no idea of all the regs and repect that should be awarded to the flag.

  1. Hubby didn’t spend long in the Boy Scouts, but one of the things that he took away from it is the flag regulations. I didn’t actually know most of them until he told me. It’s thanks to him that I know and take better care of the flag. I’m always so careful not to let flags touch the ground because of him! He completely freaks out when he sees the people with the nasty, beat-up flags flying from their cars. It would be funny, but I understand why it’s so upsetting.

He says that people have fought and died for this flag and it’s up to us to take care of it. And that it’s true patriotism to treat the flag with respect.
